The Loudwire Black Carpet Event

Article & Interviews by Brandon “B-Mac” McCarthy, Photos by Matt “Rabit” Martinez

Ever since I was a little kid, I loved to watch award shows. I would sit on the couch with my mom, and we would watch the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, etc. We would admire all the celebrities coming down the red carpet, and sometimes talk about the dresses they wore, whether we liked them or thought they were a joke. Whenever there was a provocative outfit shown, my mom would voice her disapproval, as any mother would, but I actually liked it because I thought it was daring and sexy. Then, we would watch the awards being handed out and either cheer or boo winners, depending on who we wanted to win. The men and women who got to interview and photograph the movie stars and rock stars, they had one of the best seats in the house. Well, Matt and I got our chance when we covered the first Loudwire Music Awards show. It is an award show dedicated to all things hard rock and heavy metal. So, naturally, we were in heaven when we both got to be on the “black” carpet.

There were so many metal icons that graced the black carpet. Most of them were my music heroes. The music that they create and promote takes tremendous skill, and so they should be honored for their work. If the Grammys was not going to do it properly (Metallica and Lady Gaga), then Loudwire would do it. On the carpet were the who’s who of hard rock and metal. From current superstars (Avenged Sevenfold, Body Count, Stone Sour, Fozzy), to rising up-and-comers (Nothing More, Wage War, Beartooth), female powerhouses (In This Moment, Butcher Babies, Royal Thunder, Halestorm), and metal/rock icons (Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Zakk Wylde, Sammy Hagar, Tony Iommi). Matt and I could not believe we were standing in the presence of rock ‘n’ roll royalty. While he took awesome pictures as they entered looking as dapper as a rock star can look, I had the pleasure of interviewing so many of them.

There were a few I unfortunately did not get to chat with (A7X, Hagar, host Chris Jericho, Aerosmith’s Joey Kramer), but that is okay by me. Just to be able to say hello to them and shake their hands as they passed on by. This was one of the best experiences I got to witness. Next was to check out the award show itself, which you can read about in the next article. If they do it again next year, Matt and I will be there to give all the love they deserve. To all the metal artists that attended, I salute you. Horns up!!!
