Truth be told, when I heard that “Of Gods and Monsters” were coming to El Paso on 24 January at The Rockhouse Bar and Grill, there was not much interest, but upon further review, I figured I was in for a
real treat. I’m not sure the term SuperGroup fits here, but sure comes close with the history and experience with each member of this new band. Kevin Goocher – Omen, Phantom X Deen Castronovo – Ozzy, Journey, Dead Daisies Tim Gaines – Stryper Joey Tafolla – Graham Bonnet Band, Jag Panzer.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with the boys before the show, super friendly, super-nice, autographs and photographs were the order of the day. You can tell these four are friends and it goes unsaid, they are incredible musicians embarking on an amazing journey, nothing new, that’s for sure with this crew. Watching the show, it took me back to the 70s and 80s, the days of Power Metal and Hard Rock, vocals that reminded me of Ronnie James Dio, guitar licks of Richie Blackmore, a booming bassline and the icing on the cake was watching Deen beat those skins, he is a straight-up beast. Of Gods and Monsters are all about touring and their debut release on 6 March, which none of us can
wait for, it should be epic.

At the end of the evening, I felt as if I have been transported back in time, a time I truly enjoyed hard rock, you see, I’m a child of the 70s, so I would get it, it was a delightful journey, needless to say.
My advice, get the album and decide for yourself, after that, I know we’ll be on the same page.
