So far this year, Frontiers Records has been pumping out stellar albums any rock fan would be proud to have in their collection. From Her Chariot Awaits to Edge of Paradise, the Italian hard rock label is getting ready to release unto the world another sure fire hit, Smackbound’s 20/20. The Finnish heavy rock outfit is full of tasty hooks, supercharged melodies, and sultry vocals by the beautiful and vicious Netta Laurenne. Like everyone else around the world, she and her bandmates are on lockdown. Luckily for me, I was offered the opportunity to chat with her through Skype. It has been a while since I have done one those, but it was like riding a bike for me.

The first obvious question I asked her was how she was doing while on lockdown. She told me that things in her hometown are slowly going back to normal and she is starting to work again on her music and writing. She and I agreed on the fact that this pandemic will forever change our lives, and possibly we will be hearing new songs that will reflect on our time during this crisis. She calls her group Smackbound because she wanted a name that had no meaning, but meant something. Funny enough, they had a different name, but they were forced to change it due to copyright laws. I asked Netta why she is calling the new record 20/20, and she gave me a precise detail on why that title. We would talk about the songs that will be featured on 20/20, focusing mostly on the “Drive It Like You Stole It” track and music video, where the band did a synchronized dance routine. One of Netta’s favorite songs to work on was “Date With the Devil.” In terms of touring, she hopes to get some dates lined up for next year, but it will be tough because a lot of artists from a lot of genres are grabbing dates left and right.

Netta was funny and charming during the entire interview. When I asked her about what bars and clubs I should check out if I travel to Finland one day, she happily will give me a list of places to check out. Between our laughing and reflecting, we had a blast chatting over Skype. Once touring resumes and Smackbound heads my way, I will be there, ready to lay the smackdown in the mosh pit to their new music. To Netta Laurenne, I salute you. Horns up!!!
